An indictment was brought against a police officer who shot a minor driver in a manhunt in Borsod in 2018, the head of the Central Investigation Prosecutor’s Office said. Attorney General Imre Keresztes wrote that the Debrecen Regional Investigation Prosecutor’s Office had charged the police officer in Kazincbarcika District Court for misconduct in the occupation.

According to the prosecution, in November 2018 the defendants participated in a social hunt organized by a hunting company with 13 fellow hunters and 2 drivers in a vineyard in Borsod.

During the hunt, the hunters and drivers drove in line, and then when they reached a hill of brushwood, they could no longer hold the line, and a 14-year-old driver driving on the defendant’s right was left behind. The 33-year-old police officer fired his shotgun in the steep direction of the hill, into an area covered with tall grass and brush, striking a minor driver wearing a visibility vest and brightly colored cap 39 feet away.

A total of 6 shotguns were drilled into the victim’s left forearm, left and right thighs, and legs, causing the wound to heal in 8 days.

According to the indictment, the hunter violated hunting rules on several points, including the fact that a shot can only be fired if the hunter has unequivocally recognized the game and does not endanger the life and limb of others. It is forbidden to play a game that breaks between drivers or passes through the hunter line, it is forbidden to shoot from a hill into a valley with a hunting weapon, and the expected trajectory of the projectile and the location of the impact should be considered before firing .

The crime charged to the accused is punishable by up to one year in prison.
