An important announcement from MÁV is when the special railway tram will arrive in Hungary

The country’s first rail tram will arrive in mid-January, a diesel-electric hybrid tram train that will run between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely next fall, according to manufacturer Stadler Rail Valencia SAU, MÁV Zrt. Announced Monday.

The 37-meter-long, 70-ton vehicle is transported by truck from Valencia to Szentes, the tram arrives in Hungary in three parts.

After assembly, Stadler is expected to begin line testing in February. According to the manufacturer, the second tram will also arrive in February. The first three vehicles are expected to be available in late September 2021.

According to plans, by the end of November 2021, eight tram vehicles will receive an official permit and will be able to travel between Hódmezővásárhely and Szeged.

According to the announcement, the 216-seat tram-train vehicles will be able to travel on the Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely tram lines at a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour according to traffic regulations, and on the open line between the two cities.

The comfortable, largely low-floor, barrier-free CityLink vehicles will feature a state-of-the-art passenger information system, air conditioning, a spacious and bright cabin and a state-of-the-art on-board security camera system.

The tram-train runs in Szeged on tram line 1 from Szeged train station to Szeged-Rókus train station, then continues to Hódmezővásárhely on train line 135. Almost four kilometers of track tram line only were built on the tram-train line in investment of NIF Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. In Hódmezővásárhely with five switches and six stops, as well as the network of related airlines. As part of the construction, a P + R parking lot for 94 cars and 900 bicycle storage facilities were established in Hódmezővásárhely.

It has also been reported that from the second quarter of 2021, the railway company will install ticket vending machines at the main stops on the tram-train route, from which train tickets and season tickets will be available, as well as products of tram-train designed for travelers between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely.
