In Slovakia, a full-day curfew will be enforced from Saturday due to the coronavirus epidemic, Health Minister Marek Krajci announced after a government meeting in Bratislava on Wednesday, MTI writes.
The ban will go into effect at 5 p.m. on December 19, and how long it will last has yet to be specified. The curfew does not apply to travelers, to those who are going to buy food or fuel, or to those who go to the post office, bank or online points of sale.
The government measure adopted on Wednesday was justified by the Health Minister due to an “extremely serious” epidemic.
Two days ahead of schedule, the store closings will also go into effect on Saturdays, which applies to all stores except grocery stores, pharmacies, and drug stores. This measure will remain in effect for at least 3 weeks, subject to prior notification.
In Slovakia, a further tightening of measures previously taken in relation to the spread of the coronavirus was announced last week. Part of this is that starting Monday, hotels and other lodging establishments will only be able to accept guests who can perform a negative coronavirus virus test no longer than 72 hours.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Bratislava government also approved the country’s vaccination strategy against Covid-19. In this, they anticipate that, in four waves, about 60 to 70 percent of the population of a country of 5.5 million will be vaccinated continuously.
On October 1, the Igor Matovic government introduced a state of emergency in Slovakia, which it had once extended. In principle, the extension will expire at the end of the year, but in this context, the cabinet last week approved a constitutional law that allows more extensions of the emergency. This legislation, which had once been postponed, is scheduled to be voted on in the Bratislava legislature on Thursday.
According to data released by the National Health Information Center on Wednesday, more than 16,000 PCR-type tests were performed on Tuesday and 3,565 new infections were recorded. The number of new registered infections increased in mid-October and started to rise slightly again in recent weeks, averaging just over 2,000 over the past week.
Since the spring onset of the disease in the country, the presence of the coronavirus has been detected in 139,000 people by PCR, and to date more than 1,246,000 viruses of this type have been tested. The number of those declared cured is about 101 thousand. There are currently 2,105 people receiving treatment at the hospital. Official sources attribute 1,309 deaths to the disease, a number that rose by 58 on Tuesday.
