The 41st Tour de Hongrie started with a Spanish victory. The peloton rolled three times on the Esztergom-Pilis circuit, and finally Jon Aberasturi became the fastest, who thanks to his success can also collect the yellow jersey on Sunday.
The Esztergom Basilica was the perfect setting for the first stage of the Hungarian Circuit. Even before departure, there were at least two or three hundred people in the park in front of the Basilica. At first glance, this number doesn’t seem like much, but if we take into account that Saturday was a weekday and we are talking about 10:30 in the morning, we can immediately think differently.
The troops arrived at around ten in the morning from one of the Budapest hotels in the parking lot next to the Basilica. This area almost looks like a Formula 1 paddock at this point. Each team arrived with an average of two cars and one team bus.
If a more affluent person chose to enrich himself in a bicycle race, obviously illegally, he would not have to “hug” the car, but the bicycles, which are worth much more than the vehicle that transports them.
After the runners presented themselves on the podium installed in front of the Basilica, the field started at a distance of 118 kilometers. Three laps, all three times, had to be wound on the Két-Bükkfa saddle in Pilis on a very narrow road. The organizers paid attention to safety and, in addition to paving most of the road with the help of the Hungarian asphalt, gentlemen’s mistakes that may not have been noticed on the slope were carefully noted.
Wermeser Zsombor was not on the verge of a road error. The rider in the Team Novak colors simply slipped, then fell to the ground and was forced to abandon the race. A group of fugitives, first nine and then eight, took the lead. They were the first to face the more than a thousand fans present in Pilis.
The biggest advantage for the fugitives was the four and a half minutes that the field worked before the last mountain hair. This was useful for Attila Valter, who first came to Két-Bükkfa-Saddle and was the first to start the last descent. The local team’s talent, along with eight other running backs, was able to break the others, but they couldn’t get home because the field, caught up with Mitchelton-Scott from the highest level, caught up with them.
He finally settled on a stage win in the field win, and Jon Aberasturi was the fastest in the last three hundred meters, climbing uncomfortably. He is the first Spanish stage winner in the history of the race. In addition to the victory, the Caja Rural rider was able to wear the yellow jersey with first place overall.
There was also a more serious hair loss, and the Polish CCC Team rider Kamil Malecki was taken to hospital. Fortunately, the Hungarians were left out this fall, so Dina Márton finished in 18th place and Attila Valter in 27th place.
