“The Board of Trustees of the University of Theater and Motion Picture Arts has recently unilaterally rewritten the University Organization and Operations Rules (SZMR) unilaterally, this time in a demonstrably illegal manner. With the amendment, the board created the possibility of direct intervention in academic work, without checks and balances, ”states SZFE in a recent statement. According to the university, the last date of the SZMR was 09/15/2020
With its retroactive modifications, the Board of Trustees was authorized to appoint vice-rectors as trustees without request, and to delegate these vice-rectors to the office of head of the institute without the consent of the Senate and without request for a maximum period of one year.
Thus, with the modification, the management of the foundation that maintains the university will be able to designate as vice-rectors those who are not familiar with the work of the SZFE and do not have work or department head experience.
According to the SZFE, this amendment is “another serious interference in the autonomy of the university enshrined in the Basic Law and is in conflict with the National Law of Higher Education. According to the law, the maintainer cannot intervene directly in the scientific, educational and artistic activities of the institution, and every step taken by the Vidnyánszky people so far wants to challenge this axiom, the statement states.
To restore the autonomy and legal functioning of the university, the SZFE leadership filed four demands with the help of the HÖOK, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and the Supervisory Board of the Foundation for Theater and Film Arts.
