After all Hungarian education switched to a digital work schedule, his office received entirely new complaints, the Commissioner for Educational Rights told Népszava. According to Lajos Aáry-Tamás, everyone was not prepared for the situation, in the spring the schools were drowned in chaos for weeks due to the sudden order of distance learning.

“In the first period, they called us mainly because of the chaos. In public education, you could see that they were looking for, but not always finding, digital interfaces where a school could operate distance learning in a unified way. In practice, the nature of the platforms changed from teacher to teacher, which was almost impossible to track for both students and parents. “

He said. He mentioned Facebook as one of the problematic cases: despite the fact that so many teachers thought that the majority of students are on the site and create class groups there, in principle it is not possible to register in 12 years. Tamás Aáry added:

“The truth is that it was not possible to prepare for digital education in the circumstances of that time. Educators who have attended all kinds of training have learned how digital technologies can help school education. But the fact that everyone is home is an entirely different mass. What happened in the spring was not digital education, more a fight in the digital jungle, survival. “

When asked if it happened or could have happened that someone had to repeat a year because they did not have the means and were very behind, the Commissioner replied that in his experience it was not the case. The overall failure rate was much lower in late 2020 than before, he said.

2020 was an extraordinary year. The coronavirus epidemic and the deepening economic crisis in its wake have put us all to the test, and the government has also used this dire crisis to further strengthen its already unprecedented power.
