A 27-year-old man placed a concrete block on the track, in front of an intercity train, for which the Debrecen District Court found him guilty of a crime against road safety in today’s trial. He was fined.

The man and a boy walked on July 20, 2018, around 6:45 pm, in Debrecen, along the open railway line No. 100 in Kassai út.

Meanwhile, an intercity train was already heading into the city from Nyíregyháza, in which 120 passengers were traveling in addition to the driver and the train attendant. The man

placed a 40×40 centimeter concrete block on the rail

in which the train was waiting at the station. The driver noticed the obstacle in time and braked as fast as he could. Although it managed to reduce the speed of the train from 100 km / h to 76 km / h, it could not avoid the collision. The locomotive knocked a concrete block off the track. Only the locomotive was damaged in the accident, not people.

The judge ruled that the man was guilty because his behavior endangered the safety of rail traffic and later added that the boy had nothing to do with the crime.

The man has to pay 392,000 guilders as a penalty, and he was also forced to pay about 78,000 guilders in criminal costs.

The court’s decision is not final. The prosecutor requested a reflection period of three days and the accused took note of the verdict.
