US officials say a suicide bomber allegedly blew up his caravan in downtown Nashville early on Christmas morning. Investigators have found traces of human remains at the blast site and are now trying to find out who may have carried out the blast, based on DNA samples, the BBC writes.
Police have already searched the home of a suspect in a Nashville suburb. Three people were injured in the blast, several buildings were severely damaged and there was so much damage to the telecommunications system that service was interrupted in five states. A bomb of such force exploded in the caravan that the blast would surely have killed many more people during peak periods.
For now, nobody knows what could have been behind the explosion. Local businessmen and well-known actors have invested $ 300,000 in who can name the person responsible for the explosion.
Authorities say it is currently more likely that the explosive was also in the vehicle at the time of the explosion. CNN knows that the FBI is not looking for additional people in connection with the explosion. Several American newspapers have written that the FBI is looking for the mother of the alleged suspect to obtain a DNA sample from her. Police were searched at this suspect’s suburban home.
The governor of the state of Tennessee said it was a miracle that no passerby was killed in the explosion.
At 6 a.m. on December 25, a report was received to police that gunshots could be heard in a part of Nashville known for its nightlife. The arriving police officers encountered the caravan here, from which a warning message sounded that everyone was leaving the area. The vehicle exploded minutes later in front of the local building of the AT&T telecommunications company.
