Especially in the case of bakery products and fruit and vegetable products, it can be observed that consumers prefer broth products, that is, products without packaging. To transport them safely and without damage, but in a sustainable way, the store chain offers a reusable bag as an alternative to classic disposable plastic bags, the company said in a statement.

Lidl reusable bags are more environmentally friendly and sustainable in the long term, resulting in less plastic waste and are made from recyclable polyester. It weighs only 8 grams, but it can also pack up to 5 kg of fruits, vegetables or baked goods. The reusable bag can be washed in a washing machine at 30 degrees, and there are 2 pieces in a unit pack, which can be purchased for only 229 guilders.

Lidl Hungary has set a goal of reducing the use of plastics by 20% by 2025 and making 100% of the packaging for its own brand products fully recyclable. As a result of this process, the company, in cooperation with its suppliers, has introduced a series of measures through which the store chain is reducing the use of its plastic packaging materials year after year and contributing to the protection of the environment. The company is constantly exploring the possibility of which products can bypass plastic packaging entirely and in which cases alternative packaging methods can be used.

Only in the case of the supply of fruits and vegetables, the company saves more than 17 tons of plastic per year through measures such as the replacement of plastic sorting inserts with ecological paper trays or the provision of 3-4 containers pieces. Additionally, the discount chain has completely drained the plastic for its own brand-name swab, but also uses less to pack mineral water and cooking oil, for example. Lidl Hungary’s list of optimized products for packaging can also be viewed on the company’s website.
