A night curfew will be introduced in Brussels

The curfew from 22:00 to 6 a.m. will come into effect in Brussels from Monday, it will be mandatory to wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose in public, no sporting events will be held and cinemas and theaters will have to close for a month. This was decided at an extraordinary meeting of the leaders of the Brussels region on Saturday.

  • All Brussels stores must close at 8pm
  • One person per family can shop at a time.
  • Eligible restaurants can sell ready-to-eat food until 10 p.m.
  • Teleworking, when possible, becomes mandatory.
  • All sports facilities must be closed, including swimming pools and gyms.
  • It is prohibited to carry out any non-professional sports competition, even for children under 12 years of age.
  • School trips and internships are not allowed for ages 12 and up.
  • Cultural centers, theaters, cinemas, libraries and museums are also closing.
  • A wedding can be attended by up to 15 people in addition to the bride and groom, witnesses and officials.
  • Nursing home residents and nursing home residents can only receive the same two visitors.

The Brussels rules toughen the week-long national measures. Rudi Vervoort, the prime minister of the Brussels region, justified the strict regulations, similar to the rules imposed during the spring period of the epidemic, by the increasing rates of infection in and around the capital.

Belgium currently has a curfew for the period between midnight and five in the morning. Bars and restaurants are closed for at least a month.

The leadership of the Brussels region recently ordered the closure of bars, cafes and event centers for at least a month. Food should not be sold in markets for local consumption, alcohol consumption is prohibited in public places.

In Brussels, every seventh virus test gives a positive result, there is not a single municipality in the capital where the number of cases remains below the national average. There are currently at least 500 infected people for every 100,000 inhabitants in the capital region.

According to data released by the Belgian Institute of Public Health on Saturday, an average of 11,200 new coronavirus infections were recorded in Belgium this week, 56 percent more than the previous week. Experts expect the number of positive virus tests per day to exceed 20,000 next week. Since the outbreak in Belgium, almost 288,000 people have been infected in the country.

During the week, an average of 399 people were transported to the hospital daily, an increase of 93 percent during the week. There are currently 4,061 people hospitalized with coronavirus infection, 632 of them in the intensive care unit. In 11.5 million countries, 10,658 people died from complications of the virus-induced Covid-19 disease, an average of 37 people a day during the week. (MTI)
