The presence of a new version of the coronavirus, first detected in southern England, has also been confirmed in Slovakia, Slovak news agency TASR reported on Monday, citing Health Minister Marek Krajcí. The head of the ministry reported that in some samples from the Michalovce district, in the eastern part of the country, they managed to detect the new version, which he called the “English tribe.”

The provision, which came into effect on December 21, requires that all people arriving in the country from the UK be quarantined in Slovakia.

According to data released by the National Health Information Center on Tuesday, more than 3,000 PCR-type tests were carried out in Slovakia on Sunday and 636 new infections were recorded. The number of new infections in the country increased in mid-October and began to rise further in December.

The number of new registered infections rose to an average of more than 2,000 a day in early December and around 3,000 last week. Since the outbreak in the country in the spring, the coronavirus has been detected by PCR in about 188,000 people, and so far about 1.5 million viral tests of this type have been carried out.
