A new mask, developed in Hungary, filters out almost 100 percent of viruses

KC Struktur kft. They wanted to make a safe mask for themselves. owners in March, so they developed a 3D printer that was almost 100% secure. A virus mask is already being manufactured, with a filter that protects the wearer against viruses and other airborne particles for 24 hours in a viral environment. In other words, nurses and doctors can work safely in the most dangerous places, like Covid hospital departments. The masks are made in Sopron and Mosonmagyaróvár. The managing director of the company told Origó: I would like to keep production in Hungary, thus supporting the national labor market. Masks have already been offered for charitable purposes; for example, viral masks have been transported to the hospital in Tatabánya. Miklós Kállai, managing director of the company, who was originally a mechanical engineer, told Origó.

We have tested our mask filter with real viruses, plus the viruses our filters tested are half the size of the coronavirus that is now causing the epidemic.

Miklós Kállai said.

The researchers gave the size of the virus that causes Covid disease. We have developed a mask that does not exist yet.

How did you come up with the idea of making such a mask?

Infinitely simple: in March, when the pathogen appeared in Hungary, we wanted to make ourselves a safe mask. We do not think of turning it into a market product. We just wanted to protect ourselves. We used a 3D printer and first made the first skins using designs found on the internet. However, it turned out that none of them were comfortable. Either it didn’t seal properly, it didn’t sit on your face safely, or it was really uncomfortable. We kept developing, developing newer and newer skin designs, until the result was perfect. It’s a self-developed product that doesn’t look like any other shape, it’s comfortable to wear, and most importantly, very safe. Then we look for a filter. Boglárka Csősz, who is the brother of our designer, Csősz Botond, and who joined our company as an investor, helped procure the first virus filters from abroad and helps distribute our skin with his extensive international contacts. We bought a particle measuring device with which we can measure the amount of particles that pass through the filter. Finally, we come to the conclusion that virus filters already exist and should be built into the mask. This became the perfect solution. In essence, the body of the mask can be reused after disinfection, it can be cooked like a baby bottle or it can be cleaned with an alcohol wipe, and then only the filter it contains needs to be replaced. This is extremely important from an environmental point of view. The filter does not pass viruses for 24 hours. But once someone has removed the mask, it is essential to disinfect the body of the mask and replace the filter. The mask filters out 99.98 percent of viruses for an entire day. We also pay attention during development to facilitate air intake.

The mask obviously adheres firmly to the facial skin. How irritating to the skin?

The problem with normal masks is that they adhere to the skin, become moist and therefore irritate the skin, which becomes red. Our mask is sealed on a thin edge, much more effective than the limit. We also tested it in the lab, which found the aspiration to be only two percent. It is made of flexible plastic, which causes less skin irritation.

Where are the masks made?

A subcontractor manufactures the mask components in Sopron and we assemble it in Mosonmagyaróvár. We want to keep production at home because we have created jobs.

Have masks been offered to hospitals?

Yes, we also had several charity actions, these days we will be transported to the Tatabánya hospital from the new masks. We hope that since the mask protects not only against coronavirus but also against other pathogens, it will be used by more doctors in hospitals in the future.
