A new artery appeared in the human arm.

Human evolution has not stopped, the best example of which is the expansion of the middle artery; more and more people have an extra artery in their forearms, writes science portal Futurism.

The function of the median artery in the fetal arm is to supply blood to the developing hands. Shortly after birth, the median artery disappears, assuming the role of two arteries in the forearm. The latest issue of the Journal of Anatomy has found that more and more people are left with a median artery in adulthood.

The median artery is the best example of how human evolution has not stopped “ Said the study’s lead author, Maciej Henneberg, a researcher at Adelaide University of Medicine.

Experts have observed that while 10 percent of people had an additional artery in the 1880s, that proportion was already 30 percent by the end of the 20th century.

The change took place in just 250 years, which is a very short time from an evolutionary point of view.

If the speed of propagation of the additional artery does not change, by 2100 most people will have a third artery in adulthood.

Researchers cannot yet say whether preservation of the median artery can be traced to a mutation, maternal health, or a combination of the two. Also, the benefit of having an extra artery is unknown.
