Based on information from the National Investigations Office of the Emergency Police, the Sopron police stopped a car with Hungarian registration on October 26 at 1:24 p.m. on the main road No. 85 in the area of the settlement of Vitnyéd. The car was moving from the Hungarian-Serbian border towards the western borders of the country, and investigators wanted to stop it here because they were looking to see if the smuggler driving the car would run into someone on the road.

The armed fugitive was only followed from a sufficient and safe distance by the police at the scene due to the gun, and several attempts were made to call in English and German to stop and drop his weapons. According to information from the Hungarian Nation, the human smuggler did not react when he noticed that the patrols had blocked his planned escape and stopped. He turned his pistol towards him, but it was not known whether he fired because the hand grenade in his hand had exploded.

According to criminal police investigators, he may have been a Hungarian citizen because he was traveling in a private car with Hungarian registration, and foreign smugglers often transport migrants in rented or domestic vehicles. The circumstances of the case are being investigated on the spot by the Győr Regional Investigation Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Investigation Prosecutor’s Office.
