help to the editorial office! Without you, there are no 444.
An incredible experience was reported to 444 by a patient who was referred to the Korányi Hospital on Friday, May 8, with symptoms of suspected coronavirus.
X. 40-year-old mother with two children, with no known disease. He coughed and drowned since mid-April. His GP prescribed a rapid coronavirus test, which turned negative, but then the symptoms continued, and the suffocation worsened, his chest began to itch, and when an x-ray showed a shadow in one of his lungs, he was referred to the Covid ward at Korányi Hospital for a so-called more reliable PCR test to determine if you are infected.
He arrived at the hospital on Friday, May 8 and knew that, at best, he would have to spend about 4 days inside. This is because patients are screened twice in a row for a truly reliable result, and this is approximately the same amount of time for PCR.
X. immediately went to the so-called isolation room in Korányi, the essence of which is that the patient cannot leave until he is determined to be a coronavirus.
“If my memories do not deceive, Müller Cecillia constantly draws attention to the basic hygiene of the virus” X wrote at the time of our first contact. Not by chance. Located in his room, he was surprised to discover that there were no toilets or baths.
Yes, by definition, the room for several days was a total of a wall-mounted sink, and the toilet separated from the living space was not at all, but a small mobile toilet was placed inside.
“To feel human dignity, I feel like there is a mini toilet installed in the room. They don’t take it, it’s there. All the smell permeates the room. No one has come to disinfect yesterday. ”
X. wrote on Saturday, May 9.
Hygienic conditions can almost overshadow that “The whole building is heating up, (…) the radiator is hot as we write on May 9 and it’s 28 degrees outside.”
X. at first was delicate for cleaning, and in such conditions he wanted to wash twice, but in the small sink this did not seem feasible. Therefore, he was forced to resort to an unorthodox solution.
“Last night (ie Friday, ed.) I took the bag out of the hazardous waste container, washed it with Domestos and bathed it. The Hungarian is resourceful, but that’s all.”
Here is the trash can:
And this little white object is the mobile toilet, next to the bathtub:
X. also made a video for us in his room, showing what this trash bath looked like:
And this is a video that the patient had no choice but to remove the window in the suffocating heat. The film shows the entire isolation room:
As the videos show, it wasn’t enough that I had to “bathe” in the trash, only cold water came out of the sink.
If all that had not been enough, we spoke again with X. at 9:30 on Monday morning, who told me that during his long weekend, from Friday to Monday morning, they did not take out the garbage and clean it absolutely. I asked you to take a picture of the trash. Just to be able to send this photo of the bag:
About this content:
And this from the dusty and unclean mirror in which he could draw a line with his finger:
when someone came and took out the trash the first time since Friday
“I am not deeply outraged by the attention” – Summarized the feelings of X, who mentioned several times during the weekend that, although he did not see much of the doctor, except for the exams, the nurses were always kind and helpful to him –
“(…) circumstances are what I think trample the right to human dignity. Even in prisons, there is a way to maintain basic hygiene. I beg you, right in the middle of a virus in an apartment like this?”
An interesting addition to this is that, as can be seen from the recent post by doctor-blogger Kunsz Zsombor, it was decided on Friday that all the worst coronavirus patients in the country should be transferred to two institutions in Budapest, László and Korányi. Of course, not in the same rooms, but the entire Korányi is supposedly in a similar ruined state.
In the case, of course, I contacted Korányi over the weekend, who, while acknowledging my interest, have not reacted on the merits since. As soon as they do, I will update the material immediately.
There’s only one joyous element to the story: X’s second PCR test was also negative.
