A foreign tourist and a local tour guide lost their limbs in a shark attack off the coast of the world famous Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, writes MTI. A 12-year-old Ukrainian boy who dived with his mother in Ras Mohammed National Park on Sunday lost his arm while his Egyptian tour guide had a leg. The boy’s mother suffered minor injuries.

A two-meter white-spotted oceanic shark may have been the attacker, Egypt’s Ministry of the Environment said.

Authorities closed the area of the national park where the shark attack occurred on Sunday. Ras Mohammed is the most famous national park in Egypt and one of the most famous dive sites in the world. Shark attacks have been rare off Egypt’s Red Sea coast in recent years, but in 2010 a series of attacks killed one European tourist and several more lost a limb near Sharm el-Sheikh.
