The number of victims of the UK coronavirus epidemic increased by 315, with a total of 28,466 deaths reported so far, British Chief of Staff Michael Gove said on Sunday at a press conference. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases is 186,599.

He also spoke about the fact that a total of 76,496 tests have been performed in the last twenty-four hours, but this is well below the previously planned 100,000 per day. He did not discuss why the 100,000 plan could not be met, but it had already been suggested that the number of tests performed was cosmetic.

There is also encouraging news, as hospitals in London are already hoping to go beyond the peak in terms of the number of new patients needing hospital treatment.

Stephen Powis, medical director of the UK division of the British Public Health Service (NHS), also said the deaths were expected to peak.

Gove said an additional £ 1.6 billion will go to local authorities to continue the fight against the coronavirus epidemic and enable them to carry out important tasks such as caring for the elderly.
