The first resumed flights from Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport took off on Friday and passengers complied with security measures, the airport operator told MTI.
The first resumed flight was completed by Wizz Air to Berlin, staff were ready for passengers, inspection and delivery were smooth, Budapest airport announced.
The operator stressed that every effort will be made to keep passengers and workers safe at the airport.
To this end, a number of measures have been taken: they help maintain an adequate distance between passengers with floor decals and information boards. Also, hand sanitizers are constantly refilled and sanitizer cleaning is done more frequently. Staff members who, due to their work, cannot maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between people must wear a mask.
Budapest Airport encourages travelers to use the self-service baggage check-in system and prefer online check-in to minimize physical contact.
Wizz Air and KLM announced last week that they will resume some of the flights they had previously suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak in early May.
The airport operator previously said that in April, 99.3 percent of passenger traffic was reduced, and instead of last year’s 44,000 passengers, fewer than three hundred people turn around at Ferihegy airport.
According to forecasts, slow traffic growth is expected after the reopening of the borders for economic and health reasons, so it is unlikely that passenger traffic at the Budapest airport will reach the 17 million previously planned or the 16 million registered last year, either this year or in the next two or three years.
