Coronavirus – the second year

It has been more than a year since the Chinese authorities informed the WHO of the emergence of a new, rapidly spreading virus. Since then, there has hardly been a person in the world who has not heard the term Covid-19, and more and more people are mourning a family member or friend with whom the new disease ended as stocks collapsed in weeks and our entire lives. they were rewritten by the epidemic. By now, the vaccines have been completed, which in turn raises not only hope, but again a lot of questions, while not only stopping the virus, but also threatening another mutation. You can find the details of this fight in our article series.

In Romania, children are not spared from the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic, the Romanian health minister said at a press conference on Sunday. Vlad Voiculescu said 167 children are being treated in specialized hospitals for coronavirus cases, 16 of them in the intensive care unit and two connected to a ventilator. The minister reported that the third wave of the epidemic is testing the health system more than ever.

As has been the case in recent weeks, the record for hospitalized coronavirus patients in need of intensive care was broken on Sunday. According to official figures released on Sunday, 13,714 patients are hospitalized, 1,456 of them in intensive care units. The minister also mentioned as a characteristic of the third wave that entire families will be hospitalized and not only the lives of those suffering from chronic diseases will be endangered, but also those who do not have an underlying disease.

Vlad Voiculescu said that the number of beds in hospitals treating coronavirus patients has increased in recent days and can now treat 1,600 coronavirus patients in intensive care units. He believed that transporting patients from crowded hospitals to hospitals in less infected regions increases the risk, so efforts are being made to expand hospital capacity in large cities.

According to official figures released on Sunday, there were far fewer new infections in Romania in the last 24 hours (3,712) than the daily average for the previous two weeks (5,558), and the number of deaths (97) was lower than the daily rate. average of the previous two weeks (132). However, statistics for the last year indicate that at the end of the week, the numbers are always decreasing, certainly due to a decrease in the number of tests performed and incomplete reports.

Since the outbreak, the number of infected people in Romania (974,375) is close to one million and the number of fatalities has exceeded 24,000.
