There was a fire in the Covid ward of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Hatvan on Sunday morning and no one was injured in the accident. Krisztina Zelnik, the institution’s press officer, told MTI that the coronavirus-infected patients had been transferred to another part of the hospital reserved for that purpose.

Disaster management had previously told MTI that a room had caught fire on the first floor of one of the wings of a building at Hatvan Hospital. The furniture was burned and the fire spread to the store under the pavilion window. Three rooms were evacuated during the works.

A hospital press officer said the fire broke out in one of the rooms in the section of the building dedicated to coronavirus patients. Workers had to evacuate a 28-bed non-intensive Covid-19 supply unit.

He said the building ventilation and primary remediation are still continuing, what happened will not cause a permanent disruption in patient care and hospital operation.

Csaba County Disaster Management Spokesperson Nagy Heves responded to MTI’s question: After the alarm, 22 firefighters arrived at the scene with seven vehicles from Hatvan, Gyöngyös and Aszód, and the flames stopped in no time. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
