The US government has decided that only the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) coronavirus vaccine will be produced at the Baltimore pharmaceutical plant, where 15 million doses of the vaccine were lost after its raw material was replaced. for AstraZeneca raw material due to human error.

Emergent BioSolution’s Baltimore plant disclosed a raw material swap on April 1 after a shipment from J&J from J&J stopped during quality control.

The government feared that the incident would erode trust in the two vaccines, so it decided that only the American J&J vaccines would be produced there from now on. British-Swedish company AstraZeneca is in talks with the US government to find new production capacity.

Unlike the vaccine, developed jointly by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, the J&J vaccine consists of a single dose and has been approved for a third emergency use in the United States. The AstraZeneca vaccine has not yet been approved.
