Rewards were awarded to the police officers who rescued a young child and several adults from the burning van of two human traffickers.

Police Major General Zsolt Halmosi, Deputy Chief of Police of the National Police, awarded two employees of the Bátaszék Highway Branch, who rescued those trapped from a burning van a few weeks ago, police.hu reported.

Police Chief Ensign Csaba Fülöp and Police Ensign Zoltán Drobni were patrolling the M9 motorway at night on March 2, when they realized there was a van. Our colleagues stopped the vehicle and certified the driver and passenger. The driver stated that he was not carrying anything, the cargo area was empty. During the inspection, the truck’s engine compartment began to smoke and then ignite. The fire spread throughout the vehicle. The patrols immediately notified disaster management personnel.

When the truck was already on fire, they heard voices and then screams from the cargo hold.

Csaba Fülöp and Zoltán Drobni immediately set out to stretch the loading door. Finally, they managed to rescue a small child and several adults from the fire. It turned out that the passengers in the cargo hold were illegal immigrants, while the driver of the van and the woman who was traveling with him were human traffickers.

Zsolt Halmosi awarded the two policemen in recognition of their professional activities during the rescue of people who declared themselves Syrian citizens from the hold of the lit truck, which he handed over to our colleagues on April 1, 2021 in Budapest.
