There are no signs in today’s infection figures that the epidemic will ease in Hungary, but Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that restrictions can no longer control the spread, only through vaccination, so he announced that stores and the service sector could reopen after Easter. He spoke about this this morning on the Kossuth radio show:

The number of newly infected people stands at 9,055, which has increased the number of infected people identified to a total of 670,776 since the beginning of the epidemic. According to today’s infection figures, the pressure of the epidemic will not decrease, Hungarian health professionals ask everyone to stay home for Easter if possible.

Most of the 267 deaths were chronically elderly patients, thus the number of deaths increased to 21,262. There is also no decrease in the number of deaths, even with the greatest benevolence it can be said that maybe the sharp increase in daily mortality has stopped, but there is no lasting trend in this area either.

The pressure on hospitals is also not decreasing significantly, although the number of hospital admissions has decreased for the third day in a row. This is due in part to cure and in part to mortality. 11,747 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, 1,467 of whom are connected to ventilators.

1344 new infections were found in Budapest, 1321 in Pest county. In rural areas, Borsod County found the most new infections, 626 people.

As of yesterday 39,993 tests have been carried out, 22.6% have tested positive.

Vaccination is also progressing well: 90,732 people have been vaccinated since yesterday. 22.07% of the population has received at least one vaccine so far and 8.84% have already received the second. The EU average is 11.9% for first-line vaccines.
