It appears that the price of cigarettes has reached the level that is already forcing Hungarians to act, writes daily.hu.

According to the newspaper article, compared to November-December 2020, the price of a box of cigarettes may have increased by 200-250 guilders in March-April, which is a much larger cut for smokers than if faced with an increase of 40-60 guilders every six months.

On behalf of the newspaper, Pulzus Kutató asked the smoking part of the adult Hungarian population if they would change their smoking habits due to the current price increase, or if they had done so before.

31 percent of the population over the age of 18 smokes, according to their own admission, more or less in line with the surveys of recent years and represents almost 2.5 million people.

And a very significant proportion of smokers, 23 per cent, answered Pulzus’ question that the price of 1700-1800 guilders would be too high, they would give up a cigarette.

10 percent of those surveyed said they are switching to filler – that is, buying finely chopped tobacco that can really save money. Eight percent of people will opt for electric cigarettes or heated tobacco products, but 22 percent will not change their habits despite the rise in prices, they will buy the cigarette that costs.

The largest group of respondents, 37 percent, said they had previously looked for an alternative, which could be charging or some smoke-free technology.
