In the Czech Republic, the number of new confirmed infections per day was also lower at the end of the week than a week ago, indicating a slowdown in the spread of the infection. But the biggest concern remains the extremely high workload of hospitals, which is declining more slowly than expected. The number of patients treated with Covid on Sunday night was around 8,000, a thousand fewer than a week ago.

Statistics released on the Health Department website Monday morning show that the number of plays that signaled the spread of the epidemic dropped from 0.87 to 0.7 on Friday, meaning it got even better. (It is worth comparing the Czech epidemiological site in detail with that of the Hungarian government.)

The number of new infections per day was around 5,500 on Saturdays and Sundays, which is less than the previous weekend. The number of deaths from complications of the coronavirus approached 25,000 (24,810), but the number of daily cases shows a downward trend.

The Czech Republic has a state of emergency until March 28. Deputy Prime Minister Alena Schillerová, the finance minister, said in a television program on Sunday that the government will ask parliament to extend the state of emergency for a month because only this legal situation allows certain precautions to be maintained. The opposition parties reject this or see the restrictions as sustainable only for a short time. The government is expected to make a formal decision on the issue on Monday.

Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, chairman of the national crisis team, said on public service radio Monday morning that the state of emergency must be maintained until at least April 11. He confirmed that during the Easter holidays, the Czechs still could not count on the lifting of precautionary measures.

The millionth Czech citizen will also receive the vaccine on Monday, more than 360,000 of whom have already received the second dose, Prime Minister Andrej Babis announced in a video message Sunday night. Czechs continue to use only vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). (MTI)
