The number of positive tests has never been higher, the 11,132 new cases also means that, for the second time since yesterday, the number of cases exceeded 10,000 in Hungary.

The same can be said for deaths, which sadly are also at a new peak. The day before yesterday, the death toll exceeded 200 for the first time, today is the third such day. In the past week, an average of 183 people who died from coronavirus deaths died daily.

It is also very dramatic that the number of people seen in the hospital has increased by 1,686 in one week and the number of people on the ventilator by 248. The former has experienced a 19% increase, the latter a 25% increase in past seven days, and the uptrend that still seemed to break yesterday has continued for the past 24 hours.

The number of new tests is close to the peak: 40,476 tests have been carried out in Hungary in the last 24 hours. Based on daily data, the positive test rate is 27.5 percent based on seven-day statistics.

The number of new infections was 53,335 in one week, of which 9,953 were found in Budapest and 8,816 in Pest county. On the other hand, the counties of Somogy (913), Komárom-Esztergom (815) and Nógrád (808) lead the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

Meanwhile, vaccination is ongoing, with 1,520,350 people vaccinated, of which 465,643 have already received their second vaccination. We are on a sharp rise from the third wave of the epidemic, the mutant British virus is spreading very fast, there is a significant increase in the number of active infections and hospital patients, so the government has extended the current restrictions for another week from March 22:

The consultation on the restart was closed yesterday, 528 thousand people gave their opinion, explained Csaba Dömötör, the secretary of state of the Prime Minister’s Office, in the government’s Facebook video on Saturday morning. Epidemiological restrictions must be lifted step by step, holders of protection certificates must obtain exemptions from certain restrictions (for example, attending events) and only foreigners with vaccines or protection certificates must be allowed to enter Hungary until the end of the epidemic . Based on the results, the government will prepare a restart plan, the timing of which will be determined by vaccination.
