Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and then Italian Minister of the Interior, announced more than a year and a half ago that the contract had been signed:

Hungary is establishing a seaport and outlet in Trieste, Italy, as part of a € 131 million project.

In addition to the area, the Hungarian state also bought an operating concession.

Over the weekend, it turned out that the case had been closed in the meantime, and Adria Port had 100% ownership of the Italian company Aquila, which owned the concession,

Hungary once again has a sea port.

Hungary has purchased a 32-hectare area with a 300-meter-long coastline that Hungarian companies can use for their export activities, which are expected to amount to 2 million tonnes per year. For the moment, however, we will have to wait, since first the area will have to be rehabilitated and a heritage protection procedure carried out, which, according to previous news, could take up to a year.

The visual layout shown in a previous article in the Index makes it easy to identify on Google Maps which area has taken over the state:

The coastline of 300 meters and 32 hectares roughly means that the coast, the Strada Provinciale 14 and the roads SP 15 / SS 15 border the Hungarian territory, to which the big “rusty wells” no longer belong.

And a view similar to the cover image welcomes readers at this link. You can explore the area in amazing detail on a Google map.
