Coronavirus – the second year

More than a year has passed since the Chinese authorities informed the WHO of the emergence of a new, rapidly spreading virus. By now, the vaccines have been completed, which in turn raises not only hope, but again many questions, while not only stopping the virus, but also threatening another mutation. Sooner or later, the Sputnik V vaccine will also appear on the European stage, announced the director general of the National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Safety (OGYÉI) on the M1 program on Saturday night.

Mátyás Szentiványi put it this way: Responsible politicians see the vaccine shortage, and the German Chancellor also provides support for the Sputnik V vaccine.

He said about the Hungarian licensing process: OGYÉI’s task is to review and evaluate the vaccine documentation, the vaccine itself is tested in the laboratory by the National Center for Public Health, and both are necessary to obtain the license.

One million vaccinated without side effects

He added that his staff had visited Russia several times to review production processes, and he himself had traveled to Moscow with Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, where he met with Russian experts.

According to his information, around a million people have been vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine so far, who may also experience side effects in one application, but have not yet experienced unexpected side effects.

Mátyás Szentiványi stressed that the Russian vaccine is an adenovirus vector vaccine, like the vaccine manufactured by the British AstraZeneca, and its effectiveness also exceeds 90 percent. It also covered the study of the Chinese vaccine in Hungary, the documentation of which was started later, so authorization is expected later.
