Donald Trump left a letter to Joe Biden at the White House, continuing a relatively new tradition among US presidents. The tradition started with President Reagan and Trump also received such a letter from Obama. Normally, the content of the letter was published by the rotating presidents, in this case this has not yet materialized.
“The president wrote a very generous letter. Being private, I won’t talk about it until I talk to him, but he was generous, “Biden told reporters about the letter.
A senior Trump adviser told CNN a little more about the letter. He said it was a “personal message” in which Trump prayed for the success of the country and wanted Biden to care about America.
The move came as a surprise to many, as Trump had been accusing Joe Bident of fraud for months and refused to attend his inauguration.
Trump’s decision may also have been affected by the fact that Obama left him very moved.
“It was long. It was complex. He was caring. It took me a while to do it and I really appreciated it,” Trump said in a letter from President Obama in 2017.
Trump also wished the “new government” every success and good luck in his farewell speech, without naming Bident.
Vice President Mike Pence also wrote a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris. Pence also attended Biden’s inauguration and parted with the first two men of the new US government in a good mood.
