Experts from the National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Safety (OGYÉI) found the Russian vaccine Sputnik V against the coronavirus convincing, Mátyás Szentiványi, the organization’s director general, told public service television on Wednesday night. He said:
Licensing is usually a long process, but it has now been completed in just over two months, which is a great achievement. On Wednesday, OGYÉI issued a valid temporary use permit valid in Hungary on the basis of Hungarian law. This permit is valid for six months and can be renewed once for another six months.
He added that OGYÉI is now awaiting the opinion of the National Center for Public Health (NNK), which is expected to determine in a few weeks whether the vaccine really complies with the documents that contain it. NNK will inspect each production batch over and over again, they emphasized.
As we wrote, on Wednesday afternoon, the Hungarian authorities approved vaccines against the British coronavirus AstraZeneca and the Russian Sputnik V. With these two vaccines, vaccination can start in Hungary for the first time in the European Union.
