Two days before Democratic President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, the Capitol building in Washington’s federal legislature was closed due to a security threat. Witnesses said smoke was rising over the building, firefighters were alerted to the scene. Know that flames broke out under a bridge. It is not yet clear what caused the fire.

The Washington Metropolitan Fire Department later tweeted that the fire had been extinguished, no one was injured in the incident.
#DCsBravest responded to an exterior fire in the 100 block of H St SE that has been extinguished. There were no injuries. This explains the smoke that many have seen.

The January 20 installation test was suspended due to a security threat. All were evacuated.
