Russia will apply to the European Union for approval of the Sputnik V vaccine in February, Kirill Dmitrijev, director general of the Russian Fund for Direct Investment (RFPI), which finances the development of Russian vaccines, told Reuters.

The Sputnik V approval process began in late October at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), RFPI executive director said Tuesday in response to Stefan De Keersmaecker, spokesman for the European Commission, saying the EMA was in preliminary conversations with Sputnik V. which has not yet decided to submit an application for approval of the use of the preparation in the Union.

Now, however, it appears that the decision has been made.

Dmitrijev expressed confidence that the expert opinions that will soon be published will prove the extraordinary effectiveness of the world’s first Russian vaccine registered. By this he meant expectations.

The first step in the licensing of Sputnik V in the European Union, the so-called scientific review, is scheduled for next week.

He also added that Sputnik will be manufactured in seven countries and will be approved in nine countries in January. So far, it has been recorded in Argentina, Bolivia, Serbia, Algeria, Palestine, and Belarus.

Vladimir Putin recently ordered mass vaccination in Russia. About 1.5 million people have been vaccinated so far, according to Russian authorities.
