An arrest warrant was previously issued for the president of the United States. Iraq is also cooperating with Iran.

Iran appealed to Interpol, an international law enforcement organization, to issue an international arrest warrant against US President Donald Trump, a year after Trump’s command killed Iranian commander Kasim Suleiman in US airstrikes.

Iranian Justice spokesman Golamhosein Esmaili said Tuesday that Interpol requested the arrest of 48 people, including Trump, US commanders, Pentagon officials and US soldiers stationed in the area. Esmaili told Iranian state television that there was constructive cooperation on the issue with neighboring Iraq.

Founded in 1923, Interpol coordinates police cooperation in 194 member states. A Member State can use a so-called “red notice” to request Member States to arrest certain people.

At the request of the Member States, the person being distributed will be included in Interpol’s highest red circled list, but the organization may reject the request if it considers it contrary to its statutes.

Suleiman, commander of the special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy leader of the umbrella organization of the Iranian-backed Iraqi militia, the People’s Mobilization Forces (al-Hasd as-Saabi) , died on January 3, 2020 near Baghdad. Iranian President Hasan Róhan called Suleiman a national hero who became a legend in the region after his assassination. Róhani put it this way: Tehran will avenge the death of the commander “in due course” but will also take legal action against Trump and the Pentagon.

Iran has previously issued an arrest warrant for the US president.
