In Romania, health workers have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in almost 340 health centers since Monday. Colonel Valeriu Gheorghiţă said on Antena 3 television that 13,200 people have been vaccinated so far, but that so far only 47 vaccination centers have started. He said most health and social care workers will be immunized by mid-January.

He added that the vaccination of those who live in social institutions is likely to begin in the second half of January.

There are around 1,880 such centers in Romania, where almost 40,000 people are treated and vaccinated in a relatively short time by designated mobile vaccination teams. Gheorghiţă also indicated that the pace of immunization will accelerate from the second phase of the vaccination campaign, as 900 vaccination centers will be operational by then. Romania has a contract for more than 12 million doses of the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine and 3.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine, which is expected to be released in the first week of January. When asked if the number of vaccinated people will reach 3 million in June, Valeriu Gheorghiţă replied that if there is no problem with the supply of vaccines, “this number will be much higher,” the Transindex portal reads.

Meanwhile, the man who was first diagnosed with the coronavirus became re-infected with the coronavirus in early 2020.
