A firework broke out in his hand, Norwegian footballer Omar Elabdellaoui, a player from Turkey’s Galatasaray, was seriously injured. Elabdellaoui reportedly celebrated New Year’s Eve with fireworks in Turkey when the accident occurred.

He was taken to hospital and, although not in a life-threatening condition, he suffered serious injuries: his face was burned and his vision was allegedly damaged, the extent of which they could not yet assess, the British tabloid Sun wrote, citing the athlete club.

The player was also visited in hospital by Galatasaray Vice President Abdurrahim Albayrak, head coach Fatih Terim and team captain Arda Turan.
