Earlier this week, news was announced that Hír TV would be removed from the basic UPC Direct package and replaced with another government-compatible TV, Pesti TV. The UPC justified its decision by saying that “the popularity and performance of the channel has not reached previous levels recently”, so the service provider initiated the termination of the contract. According to the Nielsen audience poll, Media1.hu obtained exactly how many people watched HírTV and Pest TV that will be replaced by this one, which UPC refers to as the “first news and flu television in the country and in Europe”.

Figures show that HírTV’s audience is not very muscular either, but so few people watch Pesti TV that, according to the portal, “its reason for being does not seem proven either.”Between January 1, 2020 and December 29, 2020, HírTV reached an average of 784,471 people, which means an audience share of 1.16% (SHR%) in the total population. Of those over 18 years of age, 1.25% watched the channel, 768,102 people, but among those aged 18 to 49 there were only 139,302 people, which represents 0.39% of the age group. During prime time, HírTV achieved an average audience share of 1.17 percent in the total population, which means an average of 420,822 people, and among those aged 18 to 49, government parties broadcast an average of 0.45 percent, 72,769 people.

Compared to Pesti TV, which started a few months ago, it had 37,934 viewers in the 18-49 age group in December, which is a 0.05 percent viewership share. During prime time, an average of 4,695 people in this age group make it to broadcasts by Gergely Huth’s Pest Guys staff.

During prime time, television reached an audience share of 0.03 percent of the total population, representing an achievement of 20,269 people. Of course, the audience will obviously increase if the channel is included in the UPC Direct package.

PestiTV is operated by Progressive Media, the company of Miklós Vaszily, Chairman of the Board of TV2, co-owner of Indamédia, which owns the Index. He owns 50 percent of the company and the other half belongs to a company called Bizalom Vagyonkezelő Kft. Vaszily just gives the money, the content on Pesti TV is made by Gergely Huth’s Pest Guys.
