The aftermath of Tuesday’s earthquake in Croatia on Wednesday morning could also be felt in Hungary, said Gyöngyvér Szanyi, a seismologist at the ELGH CSFK GGI Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory.

Szanyi said that the first of the aftershocks was at 6.15 in the morning, then erupted 11 minutes later, a milder earthquake was felt than the previous day in the tallest buildings in Hungary, for example in Kaposvár, Lenti, Nagykanizsa, Pécs and Zalaegerszeg.

A reader from Pécs reported that both tremors could be felt, as he himself put it, the bed was moving underneath.

The epicenter of the earthquakes on Wednesday morning was 18 kilometers from Sisak and 37 kilometers from Zagreb, and their nest at a depth of 10 kilometers. The population of central Croatia felt the earthquake.

Darinko Dumbovic, mayor of Petrinja, told reporters that the city and its surroundings were hit by an earthquake for the third time in three days. All the dilapidated houses that could have survived so far have collapsed, he said, adding that people have not been sleeping for a second day.

In the early hours of Tuesday afternoon, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Croatia, the epicenter of the earthquake was 46 kilometers from Zagreb, near Petrinja in central Croatia, where several buildings collapsed. Early Monday morning, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the same area, followed by a 4.7 earthquake and a 4.1 earthquake in an hour and a half.

Tuesday’s disaster has left seven dead, including a child, and twenty-six injured, six of them in serious condition.
