A California nurse produced a positive coronavirus test a week after receiving the Pfizer vaccine, Reuters reported based on information from ABC.
Matthew W., who also works at two different local hospitals, wrote on his community page on December 18 that he had been vaccinated with Pfizer and that his arm made him numb for a day, but he experienced no other side effects. The 45-year-old nurse fell ill on Christmas Eve after serving in the hospital’s coronavirus ward; the next day it was discovered that it was coronavirus.
Infectious disease specialist Christian Ramers told ABC that he was not unexpectedly affected by the nurse’s illness.
Clinical trials have shown that it takes 10-14 days for the vaccine to develop protection. The first dose provides 50 percent protection, the second increases to 95 percent.
