The Helsinki University Hospital and the Virology Laboratories of the University of Helsinki have jointly announced that a new variant of the virus has been detected in the organization of three passengers who returned to Finland on December 18 and 19. A variant of the virus initially released in the UK was identified in two passengers, while in the third, a variant launched in the Republic of South Africa.
All three patients were reported to be in relatively good condition, they were isolated. All three are in southern Finland.
Persons who might come into contact with these passengers were instructed to test and isolate them.
In Finland, a coronavirus test was recommended for those who arrived in the country from the UK since December 7, even if they showed no symptoms of infection. The proposal now also applies to those in the Republic of South Africa.
