This is because during the Christmas holidays, despite all the warnings and recommendations, they visited their families a lot, and the large communal dinners probably triggered the number of infections.
Experts who told CNN predict a sharp increase in the number of patients and those needing hospital care over the next two to three weeks, the portal reads.
The epidemic has claimed the lives of 332,000 Americans so far, and experts at the University of Washington say the worst is yet to come. The forecast for January-February is simply called a nightmare: 193,000 more deaths in two months.
Although vaccination is progressing quite well, it is estimated that 70 to 85 percent of the population will need to be protected against the virus with the vaccine so that others can breathe because they are protected by herd immunity.
