On the morning of December 26, the first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine arrived in Hungary. Béla Merkely, rector of Semmelweis University, announced on his Facebook page on Saturday that vaccination began at the Central South Pest Hospital and the Semmelweis University clinics in Buda (Városmajor Clinic) and Pest (External Clinical Block) that afternoon.

First, we vaccinate healthcare workers who are directly involved in Covid-19 care. I myself gave the first 24 vaccinations to my colleagues, who hardly felt it, they all happily left the clinic.

Béla Merkely shared the good news, then added that she was sadly unable to receive the vaccine for another two months because she had been infected with a coronavirus for a month. As he writes, he expects many more millions of Hungarian citizens to receive vaccinations in the coming months.
