Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections had been identified per day and the number of deaths from the virus was mostly between 50 and 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

In Hungary, the number of identified COVID-infected people rose to 315,362 on Saturday and the number of deaths to 8,951, writes the government information page. The number of people cured is also constantly growing, currently 126,482 people, the number of active infected people is 179,929 people. 18% of the actively infected, 20% of the dead and 20% of those recovered are from Budapest.

6,003 coronavirus patients are treated in the hospital, 468 of them with ventilators.

To maintain health protection, the government extended epidemiological preparation for six months and also suspended flights from Great Britain.

Today, the first shipment of vaccines arrived in Hungary at South Pest Central Hospital, and vaccination of healthcare workers will start first.

The first shipment of vaccines will be followed by newer ones in the coming weeks and will continue to vaccinate health workers for several weeks at the same rate. In the first half of 2021, pharmaceutical authorities are expected to authorize new vaccines, and then additional vaccines may arrive in Hungary to begin mass vaccination of the population.

More than 300,000 have already signed up for vaccinations. The vaccination will be free and voluntary.
