Three were injured in the explosion.

A parked motorhome exploded early Friday in downtown Nashville, the Tennessee state capital, with three people who were not injured and police suspected an intentional explosion, news agencies reported.

Police reporters warned the scene that shots were taking place near the vehicle. Arriving police officers found no traces of firearms use, but they also found the RV suspicious, so they challenged firefighters. However, the caravan exploded before firefighters reached the scene.

Nine cars parked nearby also caught fire and the windows of dozens of houses in the area were smashed and several trees were toppled in the detonation. At least one of the three injured was a police officer who was knocked down by an air wave caused by the explosion and suffered hearing loss. However, there were hardly any civilians in the area as it was Christmas morning.

They still don’t know if someone was in the RV at the time of the explosion. A police spokesman described the explosion as significant and said the case was being investigated not only by state police, but also by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the excise and weapons tax authority.

Andrew McCabe, a former FBI deputy director told CNN News TV that police arriving at the scene may have been the target of the explosion. He added that an explosion of this magnitude is already a terrorist act.
