Russian opposition politician Lyubov Szobol, one of Alexei Navalny’s allies, was questioned on Friday after his arrest on Monday, Reuters reports.

Defenders of the politician said the investigation could have started because Lyubov Stato had previously been near the home of one of the alleged Russian secret service agents and called but was not allowed to enter.

A house search was also carried out on Friday and he was questioned.

His phone and computer were also confiscated during the search of the house. Police are accusing the opposition politician of trespassing and extortion, which could result in up to two years in prison.

Alexei Navalny said the authorities’ action was “disproportionately harsh” and said that this procedure also proves that his accusations against the secret services may be true, which are denied by the Russian authorities.

Alexei Navalny himself was poisoned in August this year with a neurotox called Rookies. A politician who has often criticized Vladimir Putin has been transferred to Germany, where he has recovered from the poisoning and has remained there ever since, although he wants to return to Russia until the next election. The Kremlin had previously denied that the politician had been poisoned by Russian intelligence services until Der Spiegel and CNN discovered that the Federal Security Service (FSB) was in the background.

Ljubov Szobol would also stand as a candidate in the opposition elections in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
