The autopro.hu article recalls that serial production of ID.3 began in Zwickau in November 2019. Therefore, Dresden will be VW’s second facility to build cars based on a modular electric drive concept (MEB) floorplate designed for electric models.

The conversion of the Dresden plant will be carried out in several stages. The first phase of the transformations already took place this summer. Then, among other things, the workstation was adapted to “mix” the body and chassis. In winter, a panoramic roof fastening system and tools to lift dashboards and seats will be installed in the car, among other things.

The portal also reveals that VW launched the e-Golf in 2014 and it was also manufactured in Wolfsburg in the summer of 2020. Production started in Dresden in 2017 to meet growing demand. The two plants produced a total of 145,561 e-Golfs over the course of more than seven years. In terms of sales figures, e-Golf is one of the most popular electric cars in Europe. The cordless electric type has been a hit in Norway and Germany in particular.

The successor to the model is also very popular in Europe. Since the start of the European delivery of the ID.3 in September, more than 28,000 units have been delivered to VW customers.
