The 26-year-old sergeant is still undergoing surgery. His life-saving patrolman was hospitalized in shock.
Rescuers took the delayed police officer to Újpest on Thursday morning with life-threatening injuries, a spokesman for the National Police Headquarters said at a press conference Thursday morning. The attacker was shot by the injured patrol partner.
Kristóf Gál said that at 6:37 a.m. on Thursday morning, several reports were received from police about a noisy man who was an IV. district, on the staircase of the condo on Kassai Street, he ran from floor to floor while aggressively banging on the front doors.

The patrol’s partner, a 23-year-old sergeant, used her service firearm to protect her partner and her own life, firing multiple shots at the attacker, a 35-year-old man from South Church who died at the scene.
The stabbed police officer was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, his colleague was not physically injured, but was also hospitalized due to his state of shock.
The spokeswoman stressed that several of the sergeant’s vital organs, which were still in the operating room, had been damaged, so the determined action of the police saved the life of his patrol car, and presumably his own.
Kristóf Gál, on behalf of the police force, expressed his concern for the injured policeman, wishing him a full recovery as soon as possible.
The crime against the two policemen is being investigated by the Central Investigation Prosecutor’s Office and information on the investigation will be released later, he added.
