The leaders of the General Directorate of National Hospitals must work together with the Prime Minister, the chief of operational staff and the Minister in charge of professional management, he stressed. He added:

after the members of the government, the heads of the general directorate will have to work harder throughout the Hungarian public administration.

(…) Don’t forget, all life matters ”, concluded Viktor Orbán. He then thanked them for taking on the difficult and highly responsible task.

Also present were the Interior Minister Sándor Pintér and Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Resources.

The head of government appointed Zoltán Jenei, who was previously economic director of the Somogy County Police Headquarters and later rector of the University of Pécs, as director general of the national hospital. Their alternates will be Gabriella Szábfried Bábiné, Ildikó Bene, Bálint Szabó, Péter Takács and Tamás Tóbiás.

Bertalan Havasi, Undersecretary of State in charge of the Prime Minister’s Press Office, recalled that on November 17, the government decided by decree to establish the National General Directorate of Hospitals. The General Directorate is a central budgetary body under the direction of the Minister of Health, headed by the General Director of the National Hospital. According to the law, the General Directorate of the National Hospital is administered by the chief of the operational staff, that is, the Minister of the Interior, during the emergency, he explained.

The Director General of the National Hospital is appointed and removed by the Prime Minister. The General Director of the National Hospital performs tasks related to the maintenance of public health institutions and exercises systemic and institutional management rights over all elements of the institutional health system. This right is complemented by strong employer rights, said Bertalan Havasi. According to him, among the other tasks of the Director General, it is worth highlighting the management of the State Sanitary Reserve now, during the coronavirus pandemic.
