At least three rockets were fired by members of an illegal group on Sunday from the southeastern part of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, into the so-called Green Zone. His target was the US embassy, writes Reuters, citing Iraqi security officials. Missiles launched from Katyusa series projectors crashed into a residential park, damaging buildings and cars. No personal injury occurred.
Although no one has been turned up as a perpetrator so far, the United States primarily blames Iranian-backed militias for similar attacks. Five million US troops are currently stationed in the Middle East, and in October several militias promised to end the rocket attacks, in exchange for which the Baghdad government will set a timetable for their withdrawal. This lasted until November 18, when seven missiles were fired at the Green Zone. and one of the rockets killed a child.
The United States threatens from time to time to close its embassy because the Baghdad government cannot contain the militias.
