Sweden has implemented stricter measures than ever to curb the coronavirus epidemic.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has announced the closure of non-vital public institutions by January 24; among others, gyms, libraries and swimming pools.

He added that the government now recommends wearing a mask on public transport during peak hours, the telegraph office wrote, citing Reuters.

Sweden doesn't ask for masks

In the Scandinavian country, the focus is more on distance.

Sweden opted for a solution to the epidemic that was contested with relatively loose restrictions in the spring. Across the Stockholm government, the emphasis has shifted from recommendations and individual responsibility to mandatory use of masks and quarantine, so schools, shops and restaurants, among other things, could remain open.

In Sweden, with a population of 10.3 million, some 367,000 people have been registered since the outbreak. Almost eight thousand of them died from complications from Covid-19 disease.
