The government would merge the Gyula Nyírő National Institute of Psychiatry and Addictions, the Béla Gálfi Healing and Rehabilitation Center in Pomáz and the National Institute of Clinical Neuroscience, thus creating a psychiatric center with more than a thousand beds – writes 24.hu. It is not yet known exactly when the great psychiatry will take place, but according to the portal, the institutions may merge sometime next year.
The plan has been known to the psychiatric profession for the past few days and the concept has not gained favor with experts. The presidency of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association and representatives of the most important professional bodies also sent a letter of protest to Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Resources, stating that:
Centralization is unreasonable and professionally unjustified and would fundamentally harm the development of the psychiatric and addictive professions.In a letter sent to the minister on Friday, for example, professional bodies protested that they felt it was wrong to combine the fields of addiction, neurosurgery, neurology and psychiatry, which had been divided over the years.
